PowerSkin™ converts fuel from within the device to electrical energy in a way similar to that of a conventional fuel cell without the added complexity of a “stack” design. It forms a structural “skin” that generates power. As shown in the figure above, by placing PowerSkin™ externally, the entire internal volume normally occupied by a battery is available to store fuel, thus maximizing the runtime of the device. This construction utilizes inexpensive materials, scale-able manufacturing processes, and a minimal number of parts. Gecko Energy’s thin conformable PowerSkin™ is a radically new technology that places the power in the outside shell of a device rather than on the inside, as you might expect with current battery technology or conventional fuel cells.
